USAR, our racing series, like most professional racing series, has established rules. These rules not only cover the what happens on the track, but also how every car is built and set up. Here's a rundown of USAR's rules regarding the car's measurements:
NOSE HEIGHT (MIN): 18 1/4" FRONT OVERHANG (MAX): 45" SIDE WINDOW OPENING (MIN): 15" REAR WINDOW LENGTH: 32 3/4" NOSE/SIDE PANEL CLEARANCE (MIN) 4" BUMPER COVER HEIGHT 15 1/2" REAR OVERHANG (MAX): 48" ROOF HEIGHT (MIN): 50" FENDER HEIGHT: 33 1/2" DOOR HEIGHT: 33 1/2" QUARTER PANEL HEIGHT 36" WINDSHIELD ANGLE 25/30 degrees REAR DECK LENGTH (MAX) 23 3/4" FRONT OF ROOF TO REAR AXLE CENTER 59" QUARTER PANEL HEIGHT 13" BUMPER COVER HEIGHT 37 1/2" BODY WIDTH (MAX) 75 1/2" DOOR TO DOOR WIDTH 60" ROOF HEIGHT, CORNERS front 46 3/4" rear window ledge 46 1/4" ROOF HEIGHT, REAR 48" RIGHT DOOR (top to center of roll) 4" LEFT DOOR (top to center of roll) 4"
USAR requires a composite body manufactured by Five Star. It is specifically designed to meet the 50" roof height, 60-61" tread width, and 105" wheelbase perimeter chassis specified by the USAR Pro Cup series. This is the only body allowed in the USAR Pro Cup series. Every car must pass a technical inspection prior to every race where the car is measured and templates are applied. If a car fails to pass the templates, changes must be made and the car then must return to the tech barn for another round of measurements.
The mounting of the body of the car is crucial in how the car reacts on the track. Some teams mount the body themselves, whereas others hire fabricators to hang the body. Gibson Motorsports recognizes the importance of the body in the overall performance of the car and has chosen to leave the hanging of the body to the professionals.
